AI Hiring Signal Report
Every week we score open AI roles across Finance and Enterprise SaaS portfolios against our D1–D6 automation rubric — six dimensions that measure how automatable each task line actually is.
The pattern is consistent: companies are hiring employees at $150–$300K to do work that sits at 13–14/18 on our scale. That's the partially automatable tier — the human-in-loop window where fractional senior AI talent delivers the fastest ROI.
The strategy we always suggest to companies is: Try to optimize but do not lose your corporate culture and history. Automate processes so that your employees become more productive and happier and motivated to "grow the pie". Trust them and they will figure out how. Don't be a Block.
| Company | Role | Score | Bucket | Key finding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stampli | AI Product Manager | 14/18 | Partially automatable | Open since Nov 2025 |
| Smartsheet | Sr PM — Applied AI | 14/18 | Partially automatable | Active now |
| Bumble | Staff PM — AI | 13/18 | Partially automatable | Active now |
All scores based on real task lines from live job postings verified April 2026. Stampli is a Blackstone Series D portfolio company ($61M round led by Blackstone). Smartsheet and Bumble are confirmed Blackstone portfolio companies.
All three roles sit at 13–14/18 on the D1–D6 scale — the partially automatable tier. This is not a coincidence. It's the dominant pattern across Finance and Enterprise SaaS right now.
What 13–14/18 means in practice: the data layer is fully digital, the tasks are semi-structured, and there's no legal requirement for a human signature. But the role still requires domain judgment — someone who understands regulated environments, can push back on engineering, and knows when the model is wrong.
That's not a $250K full-time hire. That's a fractional senior AI PM, engaged for 3–6 months while the automation infrastructure gets built underneath them.
The 6–7 month average time-to-fill for AI roles in Financial Services (Second Talent, 2026) confirms the market isn't solving this fast enough through traditional hiring. Fractional is the bridge.
We publish this report every Tuesday. Our D1–D6 automation rubric scores job description task lines across six dimensions — repetitiveness, input definition, judgment threshold, relationship dependency, regulatory sign-off, and data availability — to identify where the automation gap is largest and where fractional AI talent delivers the fastest ROI.
